If, like this mole, you're not a football fan - the mole prefers golf - you may have missed the heroics of the England women's football team, who, in making it all the way to the semi-finals of the World Cup and then beating Germany - for the first time in history! - in the third-place play-off, not only turned in the best performance ever in the history of the women's game, but also the best performance by any England side since 1966.

This is the FA's  (since-deleted) tribute:

None of them going back to be full-time footballers, lawyers, or anything like that. Just back to being someone's wife, mother or daughter. Why not just send them back to the kitchen with their bronze medals, eh?

And the replies are, if anything, worse.

At the risk of sounding disrespectful, go play in traffic.

How many international football tournaments have you played in, pal?

But this one reaffirms what's left of the mole's faith in humanity:

Chapeau.
