Glyn Davies, the recently re-elected MP for Montgomeryshire, has thanked a voter who drew a “detailed representation” of a penis next to his name on their ballot paper.
"Amazingly, because it was neatly drawn within the confines of the box the returning officer deemed it a valid vote".
It is not clear whether the level of detail had any effect on the vote’s validity.
With Mr Davies winning 45% of the vote in his constituency, the penis did not swing the election. Nevertheless, Davies has expressed a wish to know who drew it so he can “thank him (or her) personally”.
Reuters reports that they were unable to reach the Montgomeryshire electoral office, but that Aled Davies, local Conservative party chairman, confirmed the incident.
As you know, this mole is all for the fun side of politics. Nevertheless, it suggests going with a cross on your 2020 ballot - if only for the avoidance of doubt.
